Rep. John Rutherford, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 5th district since 2017, recently shared his thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets. His statements touched upon legislative matters, a tragic incident involving Israeli Embassy staffers, and the significance of the maritime industry in Northeast Florida.

On May 22, 2025, Rep. Rutherford expressed his support for what he referred to as “The One Big Beautiful Bill.” He stated that this legislation would provide Americans with a tax break and refocus efforts on serving the American people. “The One Big Beautiful Bill will give Americans a much-needed tax break AND refocus our country on delivering for the American people.” He emphasized that contrary to some opinions, it would not significantly increase the deficit.

In another tweet from the same day, Rep. Rutherford addressed a violent incident in Washington, D.C., expressing his sorrow over the deaths of two Israeli Embassy staffers. “I’m horrified and saddened by the brazen Murders of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim.” He described their deaths as an unacceptable hate crime and called for condemnation from freedom-loving individuals.

Later that day, Rep. Rutherford highlighted Northeast Florida’s maritime industry in celebration of National Maritime Day. He acknowledged the contributions of local workers to making Jacksonville a logistics hub along the Eastern Seaboard. “Thanks to the hardworking men and women of the First Coast’s booming maritime industry.”

John Rutherford has been serving in Congress since succeeding Ander Crenshaw in 2017. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1952, he resides in Jacksonville and holds a degree from Florida State University.
