Rep. John Rutherford, a U.S. Congressman representing Florida’s 5th district since 2017, recently addressed several issues and events in a series of posts on his official social media account.

On September 10, 2025, Rutherford expressed condolences regarding an incident involving Charlie Kirk, stating, “What a senseless and horrible act. I am praying for Charlie Kirk and his family.”

Later that day, he commented on the passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), writing, “The FY26 NDAA just PASSED to restore America’s fighting force by:
Securing our borders
Streamlining procurement, execution, and delivery of military equipment
Supporting military families with a 3.8% pay raise and improved benefits
Providing over $20 billion in savings https://t.co/aB56t8GEmi”
This post highlighted key provisions including border security measures, improvements in military procurement processes, support for military families through pay raises and benefits enhancements, as well as significant budgetary savings.

On September 11, 2025, Rutherford marked the anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a commemorative message: “On this solemn day, we remember the 9/11 terror attacks that shook our nation. May we never forget the lives lost and may their loved ones continue to find peace. God Bless the brave Americans and our allies who joined together to fight terrorism around the world. https://t.co/efD64k6aoj”

John Rutherford has represented Florida’s 5th District in Congress since replacing Ander Crenshaw in 2017. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1952 and currently residing in Jacksonville, Rutherford graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
