North Florida women’s tennis remains unbeaten after sweeping Presbyterian

North Florida Women’s Tennis achieved its best season start since 2007, remaining undefeated with an 8-0 record after a 7-0 win over Presbyterian at the Templeton Center Tennis Courts in Clinton, South Carolina.

The Ospreys secured early leads in doubles matches. Senior Laurie Barendse and graduate student Isabel Oliveira led 4-1 on the first court, while graduate student Anslee Long and sophomore Gabby Goyins were ahead 3-1 on the second. Barendse and Oliveira won their match 6-1, and freshman May Fadida with sophomore Aryana Bartlett clinched the doubles point for North Florida with a 6-3 victory on court three.

In singles play, Oliveira, Bartlett, Goyins, Long, and senior Jasmin Makela all won their first sets. Bartlett won her match on court three with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Long added another win for North Florida at court five with scores of 7-6 and 6-2. Oliveira secured the overall team victory by winning her match on court two (7-5, 6-3).

Goyins remained unbeaten this season after winning her eighth singles match (6-4, 6-2) on court four. Makela extended North Florida’s lead to six points by winning at court six (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). Barendse completed the sweep for North Florida by coming from behind to win at number one singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-0).

North Florida will continue its road trip this weekend with a doubleheader against Davidson and Queens in Charlotte on Saturday. The first match against Davidson is scheduled for a morning start followed by an afternoon contest versus Queens.
