North Florida’s baseball team secured a series win over Quinnipiac with a walk-off victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Harmon Stadium on Saturday night. The Ospreys overcame a 4-0 deficit, scoring five runs in the final four innings to clinch the rubber match 5-4.
In the first game of the day, North Florida lost 6-3 to Quinnipiac. Clay Hendry took the loss for North Florida, pitching six innings and allowing four runs—three earned—while striking out six and walking none. Mathew Farner led UNF offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The second game saw North Florida rally late. Junior infielder Mitchell Collins started the comeback with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Fellow junior Mathew Farner followed with another RBI single that cut Quinnipiac’s lead to 4-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Carter White hit an RBI double to bring North Florida within one run. Redshirt sophomore Sean Benjamin then delivered a walk-off single to right field, sealing both the game and series for North Florida.
Zane Starling was credited with the win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for UNF.
Quinnipiac’s Peyton Vancas contributed two RBIs in Game 2, while Andrew Rubayo pitched six innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight without issuing a walk.
North Florida will continue its homestand at Harmon Stadium with a midweek matchup against USC Upstate scheduled for Tuesday at 6:05 p.m.
