North Florida baseball defeats Quinnipiac 10-0 by run rule

North Florida’s baseball team secured a 10-0 victory over Quinnipiac at Harmon Stadium on Friday, achieving their fourth win in five games. The Ospreys have now run-ruled their opponent for the third time in four games.

Starting pitcher Tyler Kozera, a redshirt sophomore right-hander, opened the game with two scoreless innings and recorded four strikeouts. Jackson Schrafft, a redshirt junior utility player, hit his second grand slam in five games during the second inning to give North Florida a 5-0 lead.

Sophomore infielder Seth Alford contributed an RBI single in the fourth inning, increasing the margin to 6-0. In the fifth inning, redshirt junior utility player Jackson Toberman hit his first home run as an Osprey, extending the lead to 7-0.

Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Dakota Stone came in as relief for Kozera and delivered three scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed. North Florida added its final two runs in the seventh inning when redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin hit a two-RBI single to right field.

The final line scores were: North Florida 10 runs on 10 hits with no errors; Quinnipiac zero runs on four hits with one error. Dakota Stone earned the win for North Florida, while Nick Balcom took the loss for Quinnipiac.

Statistical leaders for North Florida included Jackson Schrafft (1-for-3, four RBIs, one home run), Jackson Toberman (1-for-3, two runs scored, one home run), Sean Benjamin (2-for-4, two RBIs), Mitchell Collins (2-for-4, one run), and Dakota Stone (three innings pitched, no runs or hits allowed).

For Quinnipiac, Kyle Garbowski went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jacob Belecky pitched four innings with two earned runs and four strikeouts.

North Florida will play Game 2 against Quinnipiac at Harmon Stadium on Saturday at 3:05 p.m.
