The Edward Waters Men’s & Women’s volleyball teams were recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their successes in the classroom as both teams received the 2022 United States Marine Corps-AVCA Academic Award.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the award, the USMC-AVCA Academic Award recognizes high school and collegiate volleyball programs from across the country who have maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference champion Lady Tigers were among 147 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball teams who received this award, finishing the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.3.

The SIAC regular season champion Men’s Volleyball team were among just five NCAA Division II teams who received the award and were the only team from the SIAC to receive the honor, finishing with a 3.57 GPA. The Tiger men were also recognized as the EWU Academic Team of the Year during last semester’s “Roar Awards”.
