Community volunteers will scour Howell Park for invasive air potatoes from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 25, during Atlantic Beach’s 2023 Weed Wrangle. Air potato vines and other invasive species originate from other continents and have adverse impacts on the ecology. Many of these problem non-natives have nothing to keep them in check since there’s nothing that eats or preys on them in their “new world.” Weed Wrangle is a project of the statewide Florida Invasive Species Partnership. In addition to removing about air potatoes, the volunteer will removed a large amount of litter from the park. Also during the event, the advocacy group Friends of Howell Park will be on hand to sign up for new members. For information about Friends of Howell Park, email gretchends@bellsouth.net.
