The 2023 calendar year did not start off the way the Lady Tigers intended for it to in a tough 55-46 SIAC home loss to Lane College on Monday evening at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.

For Edward Waters (5-7, 1-3 SIAC), they could not overcome an incredibly slow start to the contest that saw Lane (9-3, 5-1 SIAC) outscore them 13-5 at the end of the first quarter. EWU was able to cut into the Lady Dragon lead, coming to within three of Lane with less than a minute remaining in the second half and ultimately trailing 22-17 at the half.

EWU was able to cut the deficit down to two at the midway point of the third quarter, but a Lane run pushed their lead back out to seven at 36-29 at the end of the quarter. Lane ultimately built on their lead and was able to close out the Lady Tigers efforts, sending EWU to their second consecutive conference loss.

Edward Waters was ice cold from the floor in the contest, shooting just 28.3% on 17-60 shooting in the game, including a rough 20.0% shooting clip from three-point range. Lane also outrebounded EWU 50-43, including a 19-17 edge on the offensive glass.

The Purple & Orange had just one player in double figures on the night as junior guard Isis Smith scored 13 points and had nine rebounds to lead the way for EWU.

Edward Waters will look to rebound on Wednesday evening in another SIAC cross-divisional matchup against the Lady Magicians of Lemoyne-Owen College at 5:30pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
