Junior swimmer Kayla Daley set a new program record in the 200 Butterfly with a finals time of 2:01.62 at the ASUN Championships held at the Rosen Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida, on Friday. The previous record of 2:02.05 was set by Amy Taylor during the 2015-16 season.

Daley’s achievement came one day after she became North Florida’s first All-ASUN finisher by earning a medal in the 100 Butterfly on Thursday.

Head Coach Ian Coffey provided an overview of the team’s performance on Friday morning. “Friday morning started with three of our backstrokers making back in the C Final in the 100 Backstroke,” Coffey said. “In the 100 Breaststroke, Victoria Torres made the A Final, Ashley Kirby and Kendall Hudges advanced to the B Final, and Ellie Hixenbaugh and Kendall Butler earned a spot in the C Final. Kayla Daley placed eighth in the 200 Butterfly to secure a spot in the A Finals.”

Coffey continued to highlight team efforts during Friday’s finals session. “To start the Friday Finals, our 800 Free Relay did a solid job. Reeves Showfety and Amanda Loomis stepped up in the 100 Backstroke C Final. All five of our breaststroke swimmers did a great job in the 100 Breaststroke. In the A Final of the 200 Butterfly, Kayla Daley broke the program record with a time of 2:01.62.”

He added, “We close tomorrow with five events. We’re battling and swimming fast. We’re looking to close out the meet on a high note.”

North Florida will continue competition on Saturday for Day Four of the ASUN Championships, starting at 10 a.m.
