John Rutherford shares appreciation for law enforcement, prayer and military service

John Rutherford, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 5th district, has taken to social media to express his reflections and commendations during significant observances. Rutherford, who has been in office since 2017 and previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, shared his insights and appreciation for law enforcement officers, the role of prayer, and military personnel in a series of tweets.

On May 1, 2025, Rutherford, drawing from his experience as a former law enforcement officer, tweeted about the perils officers face daily, stating: “As a former law enforcement officer, I know firsthand the dangers our officers face each and every day they put on their uniforms. Today, on Florida’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we honor and thank those who risk their lives to protect and serve our communities.”

Later on the same day, May 1, 2025, Rutherford highlighted the transformative power of prayer, which he believes has impactful effects on people’s lives. He shared: “I have seen firsthand the powerful and positive impact prayer can have on one’s life and those around them. This National Day of Prayer, I pray for our armed forces, first responders, Northeast Florida, our country, and those around the world who bravely express their faith even.”

On May 2, 2025, Rutherford expressed his gratitude to military personnel in recognition of Military Appreciation Month. He posted: “Thank you to our many brave servicemen and women who have sacrificed so much to keep the air we breathe free. This Military Appreciation Month, we salute and thank you.”

John Rutherford was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1952 and currently resides in Jacksonville. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University in 1974.
