Jacksonville, Fla. — The Jacksonville Dolphins women’s basketball team secured their eighth consecutive victory on Thursday night, defeating the Queens Royals 84-49 at Swisher Gymnasium. This win brings the Dolphins’ record to 19-7 overall and 11-4 in ASUN play, matching the program’s longest winning streak since 2018.
Graduate student guard Priscilla Williams led Jacksonville with 25 points, marking her sixth game this season scoring at least 25 points. The Dolphins maintained control throughout the game and never trailed.
Assistant coach Shenneika Smith commented on the team’s current run: “We’re just resilient,” Smith said. “We’re putting it together, and [our team] is having a lot of fun.”
The first quarter saw both teams competing closely until Jacksonville pulled ahead late in the period. Sophomore Mychal White contributed by drawing a foul on a last-second three-point attempt and converting all three free throws to give Jacksonville a six-point lead after one quarter.
From there, Jacksonville extended its advantage with strong runs in each quarter. Williams added key baskets early in the second quarter and hit a three-pointer from the left wing to push JU’s lead further. Sophomore Mariah Knight also contributed seven points near halftime.
In the third quarter, White assisted on multiple plays, including finding Comari Mitchell for a layup and setting up Knight for another basket. Williams continued her scoring with free throws and another three-pointer before White capped off the period with a running three-pointer at the buzzer.
Freshman Aniah Smith scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Jacksonville closed out their win.
Reflecting on beating an opponent twice in one season, assistant coach Shenneika Smith said: “We play our game. We focus on ourselves and make sure we do what we need to do. Defensively, we focus on the little things. But it’s not easy to beat a team twice, now. But we’re at home and we feel comfortable at home. And like I said, we’re just having a lot of fun right now.”
On White’s performance this season, Smith added: “She’s finding her way. She’s had some tough ones, and sometimes with kids they’ll stay down, but she’s been in the gym getting extra shots up and tonight her teammates allowed her to do what she does today.”
With this win, Jacksonville has scored at least 80 points in eight games this season and matched its third-longest winning streak in school history—this being only their fourth such streak ever recorded by the program.
The Dolphins will aim to match their second-longest winning streak when they face Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday at Swisher Gymnasium.
