Jacksonville University’s men’s golf team concluded the Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, finishing 16th among 18 teams. The tournament was held at the Mark Bostick Golf Club and included seven teams from Florida.
Senior Daniel Montalvo, who hails from Mexico City, delivered one of his strongest performances this season. He posted rounds of 72, 69, and 73 for a total score of +5. This was his second-best three-round result of the year; earlier in the season at the West Bay Collegiate, he achieved a -3 over three rounds. Montalvo’s performance tied him for the best individual Dolphin score and placed him tied for 30th overall.
The Dolphins began Saturday with a combined team score of +16 in the opening round, which put them in a tie for 15th place alongside three other teams. They improved significantly in round two with a team score of +2—a 14-shot improvement—moving up to 13th position before Sunday’s final round. Round two had to be completed Sunday morning due to darkness but did not affect their play; they finished even par from where they left off Saturday night.
Brandon Lohr recorded the team’s lowest round with a three-under-par 67 in round two. His performance included two birdies and Jacksonville’s only eagle of the tournament. Lohr finished four over par for the weekend, tying with Montalvo for 30th place.
Will Harris shot his best round on Saturday with a +2 (72), highlighted by three birdies. After starting on hole 16 and making two bogeys early, he managed to go two under par across his next eleven holes.
Sunday’s third round started late and saw Jacksonville struggle again, similar to their first-round difficulties, resulting in a combined score of +19.
Andrew Morgan played an even-par front nine during round three—his best stretch over the weekend—and carded his top score (74) in round two. Tomas Hjaltested’s best effort came on Sunday when he shot +5.
Jacksonville finished just ahead of North Florida by two shots; North Florida placed 17th overall.
Team leaderboard highlights include Florida winning at -27, followed by Auburn (-13) and Oklahoma State (-2). Other schools rounding out the top five were USF (+4) and Charlotte (+12).
The Dolphins’ next competition is scheduled for March 20–22 at the Linger Longer Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State at Great Waters Country Club in Eatonton, Georgia.
