For the first time in Division I college sports, two teams named the Dolphins will compete against each other as Jacksonville hosts Le Moyne in men’s lacrosse this Saturday. This marks the inaugural meeting between the programs in any sport, with Le Moyne only recently moving up to Division I.

Jacksonville comes into its home opener after a narrow 11-10 loss to No. 6 North Carolina last weekend. The team was led by Ryan Della Rocco, who earned ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors for his 15 saves. Jacksonville’s defense limited North Carolina’s offense and their faceoff unit won more than half of its draws against an All-American opponent.

Le Moyne, coached by Dan Sheehan in his 29th season, enters with a record of 0-1 after dropping its opener to Queens (NC) by a score of 13-3. Last year, Le Moyne finished with a 9-6 record and claimed the NEC regular season title. The team features returning All-American goaltender Lucas Winger, leading scorer Thomas Berry, and second-team All-NEC faceoff specialist Sam Getty.

Le Moyne has a history of success at the Division II level, including three national championships with their most recent title coming in 2021.

Jacksonville performed strongly at home last season, averaging nearly 16 goals per game and posting a 5-1 record at Rock Stadium. Since 2020, they have compiled a regular-season home record of 26 wins and eight losses.

The game is scheduled for noon at Rock Stadium on Jacksonville’s campus. Admission is free and fans can watch live on ESPN+.
