U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean of Florida’s 4th district issued a statement after the House voted 222-209 to end the federal government shutdown, referred to by some as the “Schumer Shutdown.” The vote restores full operations of the federal government.
“Tonight, I voted to end the Schumer Shutdown and get our government back to work. For 43 days, hardworking Americans missed paychecks, worried about feeding their families, and faced disruptions in vital services. We’ve said it from the start: our military, federal firefighters, and air traffic controllers should never be used as political pawns,” said Congressman Bean. “The bill we passed funds the government through January 30, and fully supports our veterans and farmers. Along with my House Republican colleagues, I’ll keep fighting for a government that works for the people—not against them.”
The legislation provides a funding extension through January 30, 2026. It also includes three full-year appropriations bills covering Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and the Legislative Branch.
According to Bean’s office, this legislative package aims to support veterans and farmers while guaranteeing back pay for all federal workers affected by the shutdown.
Aaron Bean has represented Florida’s 4th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Rutherford. He previously served in both chambers of Florida’s legislature from 2000 to 2008 in the House of Representatives and from 2012 to 2022 in the Senate. Born in Fernandina Beach in 1967, Bean continues to reside there at age 56. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University in 1989.
