U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) issued a statement regarding President Trump’s decision to use unspent research and development funds to ensure U.S. service members received their paychecks during the ongoing government shutdown.
Bean stated, “Today, our troops received their paycheck because President Trump stepped up and did what Senate dysfunction nearly prevented. With military livelihoods at stake, the Senate failed to act, blocking a common-sense funding extension nine separate times.
Last month, I supported, and the House passed a straightforward, short-term funding bill to keep the government open through November. We did our job, but the Senate chose gridlock over responsibility.
It’s time to get back to delivering for the American people. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bill so that our men and women in uniform don’t worry about missing their next paycheck.”
Aaron Bean has been representing Florida’s 4th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Rutherford. He previously served in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature from 2000 through 2022 and is a graduate of Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Bean was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida in 1967 and currently resides there.
